who says you can’t socialize feral cats
I just wanted to share with anyone that cared to know, a little bit more about me..This is a video of a cat at the Wantagh Bideawee..He has been a feral cat down there for almost ten years. Overtime, as you can see..He has come to trust me..He is just one of the cats down there. (Yes, they are all neutered and spayed.) How he came about? Either he was dumped, which is most likely the case, thats usually the way. Or just wandered over..They are still being taken care of, by some great group of dedicated employees of Bideawee. And a whole bunch of wonderful caring volunteers. Being there with Ralphie and the other strays, makes me keep going. They give me a reason to try harder. It is such a joy to be around them. And after I leave them…I feel so relaxed. I’m safe when I’m around them. I feel like never leaving them. I know that is so weird. Don’t really know if anyone understands that or what I’m saying…I really don’t want to be anywhere else. I really need to be back there. And everyday, I pray that the economy gets better. And people start to feel confident again..wanting to donate. Because..and I know..its not just Bideawee..There are alot of places(ALOT)..companies, alot of other animal shelters closing…Its just so damn depressing. People always say, “want to take them all home”. That is so true. But we can’t “take them all home”. Some of them make it. Some of them don’t. And thats the way it will always be. There will always be animals being put to death, or …

Yep I can believe it. Just takes patience and allowing them to accept you on their time. I have two feral cats here on the homestead almost identical black and white. Somebody dropped them out a year ago. One will allow me, when it wants, to touch but not the other. They live under the workshop and are great mousers. I am fortunate to have them.
Great video from a nice person. Blessings
thank you for the nice sincere comment..I am so glad that there are many others out there with the same thoughtfulness with animals.

Hi Michele-I want to thank you for your time, care, patience, love and expertice with all your endeavors. I have been to Wantagh Bideawee countless times as a youngster, had volunteered my time helping in the kennels and socializing with the animals awaiting adoption. My mom worked at a beverage store (very close-by) and I went to work with her 2X’s a week so I could walk over to the center. I am looking to come back to LI for April, as I have been in the UK for the past 8 yrs. I look forward
@sammussmom hello, very nice to meeting you. I am still here with the cats. Over at the cemetery now. Its a shame about bideawee wantagh..I wish they could reopen it again very soon. Very depressing. But they believe they can save more money, by closing the wantagh branch easily. I’m trying to understand…I look forward to..The UK! Very exciting. Do you still have your LI accent? hehe
michele
Hi Michele, Well that just drove home the reality that I completely forgot about-and to make matters more driven more, I have a dear and loyal friend Ceaser out in the cemetary where you are (my white german shepared from 21 yrs ago!!!)I wish Wantagh will reopen as well!-My son who is 9 yrs old is keen on carrying on with tradition, he wants to volunteer with local RSPCA-I will never give up my LOOONGGG ISLAND accent-LOL-Thanks again for all your endeavors-God bless and keep you and your charges
one male feral cat alway follow me around everyday…other female feral cat did trust me save kitten have a good home
@xsilentguy23x thank you.
michele
There are so many of these little angels. I try to feed them and wish them well. One has recently adopted me and he is now no longer a feral and has a home. My cat has established her territory and they are able to be in the same room with no fighting…….yeah. The new cat is a tom cat whereas my cat is a calico, very fiesty
. Great video. Christ commanded that we help the creatures of the Earth for he said that we are like Gods unto them. It does not hurt to share your food and water.
@AWSRevMel Thank you very much for the comment, and for watching. Yes, there are alot of them around. But thankful we have people like ourselves that care for them, and we know the reward of what they give back..
Michele
he has beautiful markings! i love the colors.
i am starting to feed the few feral cats behind my apartment. they somehow managed to make it through the very cold winter. there is one gray one, though, whose eye looks a little messed up.. i am worried, but he/she won’t let me close enough to have a look.
@ripoph thankyou for watching! Don’t give up on them. Try and get into a routine of feeding them. (At certain times of the day). Don’t push them. Take it slow. They will trust you over time. How “messed” up does the eye look? Perhaps you can go online and look, for a low cost vet. clinic in your area.
Michele
P.S. you can try trapping the cat(s) to spay and neuter them..
Thank you for sharing this. I care for a colony of 30 to 40 feral cats. I have socialized some as old as 8 years old. They are amazing beauties.
@lovingtheferalsoul , I hope to see more of your beauties..take care,
michele
